What happens when people are expected to participate, but no one shows them how?

Democracy depends on participation. But participation doesn’t just happen, it is shaped by how spaces are created, how people are invited in and how they are held once they are there.

In this first module, participants explore democracy through the lens of learning and interaction. They reflect on their own experiences, expectations and values, and begin to understand how group settings influence who speaks, who stays silent and who feels included.

At the same time, the Training-of-Trainers track focuses on the fundamentals of facilitation. Participants start developing their own trainer identity and learn how to create learning environments where others can engage, reflect and contribute.

Because this is were the journey begins – by learning how spaces shape participation. 

When was the first time, you were in a room, but not invited to be part of the conversation? 

Inclusion is often named as a goal. But in practice, it raises difficult questions: Who feels safe to speak? Whose perspectives are heard? And which voices remain invisible?

In this module, participants explore how inclusion and exclusion are shaped in everyday interactions. They reflect on power, identity and perspective, and examine how learning spaces can either reproduce or challenge inequalities.

The Training-of-Trainers track focuses on working with diversity. Participants develop their trainer persona and learn how to create spaces that are aware of difference without reducing people to it.

You’re asked for your opinion, but only after the decision is already made.

Participation is often demanded, but not always understood. Between tokenism and real influence, the line can be thin.

In this module, participants explore different forms of participation and the conditions that make it meaningful. They analyse how decisions are made, who is involved and where participation becomes symbolic rather than real.

The Training-of-Trainers track focuses on group dynamics. Participants learn to observe, understand and facilitate group processes so they recognise when participation is blocked, uneven or performative.

What happens when disagreement becomes division?

Digital spaces have changed how we communicate, engage and disagree. They can connect, but also polarise.

In this module, participants explore how digital dynamics influence democratic processes, from information flows to online conflict and polarisation. They reflect on their own role within these dynamics and how communication shapes perception and trust.

The Training-of-Trainers track focuses on conflict transformation. Participants learn how to facilitate difficult conversations, hold tension and navigate polarisation without simplifying complexity.

Imagine caring deeply, and still feeling powerless. 

Climate justice confronts us with urgency, complexity and uncertainty. It raises questions of responsibility, power and intergenerational fairness.

In this module, participants engage with climate justice not only as a topic, but as an experience of complexity. They explore how people respond to overwhelming challenges — through action, withdrawal or resistance.

The Training-of-Trainers track focuses on resilience and holding complexity. Participants learn how to stay present in situations that are uncertain, emotionally charged or unresolved: both for themselves and for others.

Meaningful engagement doesn't mean having all the answers, it means sticking to the questions.

You now know what matters. What comes next? 

After exploring different dimensions of democracy, the final question becomes: What do we do with what we have learned?

In this module, participants reflect on their journey and how it connects to their own realities. They explore different forms of engagement and how change can be initiated within organisations, communities and broader society.

The Training-of-Trainers track focuses on integration and action. Participants consolidate their facilitation skills and translate their learning into concrete approaches they can apply in their own contexts.

Because learning only becomes meaningful when it is carried forward.
